Capcom debuted a new gameplay trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds during Gamescom Opening Night Live last night, unveiling new monsters and story details. With the 2025 gaming calendar already stacked with major releases, Monster Hunter Wilds is certainly shaping up to be one of next year’s biggest games.
Monster Hunter Wilds is set in the Forbidden Lands. Players will take on the role of a new, custom-created hunter researching the sprawling region. The Gamescom trailer didn’t offer a concrete release date but it did reveal a new locale called the Scarlet Forest. Here, players will encounter a new spider-like monster named Lala Barina. In addition to the bug monster, Capcom also provided a closer look at the apex monster of the Windward Plains area called Rey Dau.
Monster Hunter Wilds will be introducing some changes to the way you tackle hunts. NPCs can now be enlisted to help you on your hunts as support hunters, providing back-up, distractions and extra damage if you need.

In case you missed it, Capcom also released new gameplay showcasing the Seikret mounts and familiar weapons. The game will also feature crossplay, meaning players across PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC will be able to team up together on hunts, regardless of platform. This is the first time that the Monster Hunter series has enabled crossplay as previous entries limited players to joining up only if they had the same hardware.
Monster Hunter Wilds launches in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. As the marketing material suggests, there’s a chance it could aim for an early 2025 release, possibly in January or February. Watch the latest Gamescom trailer below:
