Monster Hunter Wilds Windward Plains Map Size World

Monster Hunter Wilds Map Could Be Twice as Big as World’s Wildspire Waste

Capcom is ramping up the scale of its upcoming RPG, Monster Hunter Wilds, to be much larger than any other Monster Hunter games in the past. Initially, fans believed this could mean a full-fledged open-world but according to new discoveries, that won’t be the case. One mapper has gone through great lengths to try and scale the Windward Plains map, reaching the conclusion that it could be at least twice as big as the Wildspire Waste map from Monster Hunter World.

Of course, the Windward Plains is just one of potentially several maps that will be featured in Monster Hunter Wilds – fans believe it could either be four or five large-scaled maps, keeping with the tradition of past games. The maps will also be interconnected in some way. We already know of a second map called Scarlett Forest, though that map hasn’t been revealed yet. However, thanks to Twitter/X user Bouboun2805, we have an idea of how big the Windward Plains will be.

Bouboun2805 went through the process of trying to figure out how big the Windward Plains map of Monster Hunter Wilds is compared to the similar desert-themed Wildspire Waste map from Monster Hunter World. Using footage already provided by Capcom, the user tried to use the running animations from Wilds to get an idea of the scale of the Windward Plains by comparing it to similar running animations in World‘s Wildspire Waste.

The user plotted the route on each of the maps then attempted to scale it accordingly, finally layering them to begin estimating how big the Windsward Plains map is. They detail their entire process below if you’re interested:

Putting the scaled maps of the Windward Plains and Wildspire Waste next to each other afterwards reveals that Wilds‘ map is at least twice as big as the one from World. This is an impressive scale, though it’s worth keeping in mind that this will only be one of many maps that will be present in the game, meaning the actual scale of the overworld could be much greater. Capcom has clearly put a lot of attention into giving players a more open sandbox to explore, even if it’s not entirely open-world.

Monster Hunter Wilds launches in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Catch up on other related news including its numerous Gamesom 2024 awards and how Capcom is allowing players to wear both male and female armour sets in the game.
