Monster Hunter Wilds Review

Monster Hunter Wilds Needs a 15GB Update to Play

Capcom has confirmed a day-one update for Monster Hunter Wilds, which hopefully addresses the many technical issues I mentioned in my review. The update comes in at a whopping 15GB, and you’ll need to download the file in order to play the game.

Capcom says this 15GB update covers the physical copy, so it is likely that digital versions will include the patch if you start your pre-load of the game now ahead of the launch time. We covered the full Monster Hunter Wilds pre-load and launch times in a full guide here to catch you up.

The developer didn’t include any patch notes with the news of the 15GB update. Only that it needs to be downloaded in order to play your physical copy and that the patch is now available. With the game launching tomorrow, it makes sense that the update file is now ready to download.

I have played Monster Hunter Wilds since the digital build received a 4GB update this week. The build includes both an earlier patch and the day-one patch. However, I have still experienced major graphical issues in the game. Texture pop-in occurs in later regions, monsters lose their textures and details, and the ground turns into clay. So this patch doesn’t seem to have fixed the problems.

Monster Hunter Wilds is out tomorrow, 28 February, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. In my review, I praised the game’s stellar combat but complained that it feels like a lifeless, uglier version of Monster Hunter World that stands in the shadow of the previous mainline entry.

“Picking up a physical copy of Monster Hunter Wilds? Heads up, an update to the latest version of approximately 15GB is required to play. If you’ve preordered the digital version, you can download the latest update now. – X

Already got the game pre-loaded and ready to go, not long now until release.
