Monster Hunter Wilds has officially become Capcom’s fastest-selling title of all time, selling 8 million copies across all platforms in just 3 days. Capcom didn’t provide any additional information in its recent press release celebrating the tremendous milestone, so we’ll have to see which platforms got the biggest boosts in players at launch at a later stage.
The news follows Monster Hunter Wilds breaking Steam records as it peaked at 1,384,608 million players on launch day, despite mixed reviews criticising its gameplay, story and numerous performance issues on PC. Capcom is still in the post-launch process of mending all of these errors, promising to apply fixes over time along with big new content drops – the first of which includes Mizutsune as a free monster in the first title update.
The critical success of Monster Hunter Wilds plus the enormous popularity of its predecessor, Monster Hunter World, helped push the action-RPG to sell a staggering 8 million copies in 3 days. All signs seem to suggest that the number will keep rising once new updates roll out and word of mouth spreads (hopefully after the PC performance issues are patched out too). This also includes potential discounts and sales down the line.
At this rate, there’s a good chance that Monster Hunter Wilds will become Capcom’s best-selling game of all time, overtaking Monster Hunter World‘s 28.1 million copies sold since 2018. As of writing, Wilds is currently sitting with an average score of 89 on OpenCritic based on 117 reviews with 95% of outlets recommending the game, making it one of the highest-rated games of 2025 so far next to Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.
The description for the game reads:
“This is a story of monsters and humans and their struggles to live in harmony in a world of duality. Fulfill your duty as a Hunter by tracking and defeating powerful monsters and forging strong new weapons and armor from the materials you harvest from your hunt as you uncover the connection between the people of the Forbidden Lands and the locales they inhabit. The ultimate hunting experience awaits you in Monster Hunter Wilds.”
Monster Hunter Wilds is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
