Capcom is set to host a showcase for Monster Hunter Wilds this week which will break down all the changes and content coming in its first big update. Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto will host the presentation tomorrow, 25 March to give players a closer look at the first Free Title Update which we know will include the first free post-launch monster, Mizutsune. However, details are still murky on what else the developer might have in store for its over eight million players.
Capcom previously revealed that the first free monster to join Monster Hunter Wilds will be Mizutsune, a graceful water elemental monster that was first introduced in Monster Hunter Generations. It has since become a fan-favourite monster in the series, later also appearing in the base game for Monster Hunter Rise as well. Despite its elegant appearance, it’s a fast and powerful monster that can inflict various blights with its bubbles which it constantly throws out during battle, adding another layer of challenge to the hunt.
In a post on social media, Capcom revealed that it will talk more about Mizutsune – which will likely include the first gameplay as well – along with “a host of other new additions” coming to the game in April. This week’s showcase will take place tomorrow, 25 March at 7am PT, 2pm GMT or 4pm SAST.
Monster Hunter Wilds received positive reviews at launch. It currently sits with an average rating of 89 on OpenCritic based on 167 reviews, with 95% of those reviews recommending the game. However, the game was also criticised for its lack of certain features that were once staples in the series, such as the ability to decorate a custom house for your hunter, a canteen where palicos cook up your meals, and a single large hub area instead of isolated small camps across the biomes. The game also didn’t include a gathering hub at launch where other players can meet online and initiate quests together. We went over more concerns in our full review.
Fans expect Capcom to gradually add these features to the game over time and work to improve its missing content.
Monster Hunter Wilds is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
