Monster Hunter Wilds Gamescom 2024 Awards

Monster Hunter Wilds Wins Big Awards at Gamescom 2024

Monster Hunter Wilds, the upcoming monster slaying RPG from Capcom, won several big awards at Gamescom in Germany. Capcom offered attendees a playable demo on the show floor and the reception has been largely positive from players, despite early reports suggesting that it might be locked to 30FPS on consoles.

According to a press release from the Gamescom Awards desk – which typically highlights the best games featured at the event – Monster Hunter Wilds ended up being the overall winner of the show, taking a handful of awards including Most Epic and Most Entertaining game. It also won Best PlayStation Game as well as Best Trailer. It’s worth noting that Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t necessarily a PlayStation exclusive since it’s also coming to Xbox and PC, though the criteria was judged by which platform the game was made playable on the show floor.

Meanwhile, Little Nightmares 3, the third entry in the franchise now developed by Until Dawn studio Supermassive Games, ended up close behind in second place. It won Best Visuals, Best Audio and Best Xbox Game. Other awards mentioned in the press release (via GamesRadar) include Frostpunk 2 winning Best Gameplay, Tavern Talk for Most Wholesome, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 for Best PC Game and Genshin Impact (unsurprisingly) for Best Mobile Game.

Last week, early reports claimed that Monster Hunter Wilds might be limited to 30FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, following a similar trajectory as Dragon’s Dogma 2 which Capcom eventually locked to 30FPS after launch, at least on consoles. Fans speculated that the RE Engine might be the cause of the problem as it struggles under the weight of an open-world design. Monster Hunter Wilds is going fully open-world for the first time in the franchise.

Monster Hunter Wilds launches in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. In case you missed it, check out the latest gameplay trailer below.
