Capcom Unannounced Game March 2024 Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter World Continues to Sell Like Crazy

It’s no secret that Monster Hunter World is Capcom’s most profitable game and best-selling single title in the company’s history, even surpassing sales of the most successful Resident Evil games. Capcom has provided updated sales figures for the game, confirming that it has now sold 28 million copies worldwide ahead of the release of its follow-up, Monster Hunter Wilds, later this month.

As reported by Automaton, Capcom provided its latest financial results for its last quarter revealing that Monster Hunter World had sold 28.1 million copies since its launch in 2018. In fact, it has been selling at least 1 million copies every three months since then with a recent uptick in sales due to the upcoming release and hype of Monster Hunter Wilds. World‘s one and only expansion, Iceborne, pushed 900,000 units in the last quarter too.

This puts overall lifetime sales of the entire Monster Hunter franchise at 108 million copies sold – still short of Resident Evil‘s 167 million units sold collectively. Considering that up until World, Monster Hunter was a relatively “niche” franchise when compared to Capcom’s other heavy-hitting established IPs, this is quite impressive.

Monster Hunter World ended support with the release of its final post-launch update back in 2020 which permanently added Fatalis to the Iceborne expansion, ending its successful two-year run of free updates and new monsters. Monster Hunter Wilds looks to follow a similar trajectory as Capcom has already announced the first free post-launch monster for the upcoming game, the Leviathan-type monster Mizutsune, which will be added in spring 2025.

If you’re still itching to play a few hunts from Monster Hunter Wilds before the full game launches on 28 February for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, Capcom is currently hosting the second round of the open beta test on all platforms. However, the beta will be extended by an extra day to account for the 24-hour PlayStation Network outage which occured last weekend. Sony has yet to offer an official explanation for the outage, leaving it open to speculation such as spam games flooding the storefront.
