While Sony is not at E3 2019, the company is working hard on making sure the “PlayStation” brand is not forgotten during the year’s biggest week in gaming. Speaking to CNET, CEO Jim Ryan confirmed new PS5 details including refresh rate, the SSD and 4K support.
According to CNET, who spoke directly to Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan, the PS5 will come with an SSD by default. There will be no cheaper alternative model with an HDD, only an SSD option. The PS5 will also support a 120Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution for a smoother gaming experience. Of course, you will need a TV or monitor that supports this.

It has also been confirmed that you will be able to transfer game saves between your PS4 and PS5 in some way so you can pick up where you left off on the new console.
Ryan also went on to speak about the PlayStation Now gaming streaming service. They plan on taking it “to the next level later this year”. Though he did not explain what that meant.
Ryan also told the Financial Times “When everything is networked and everybody is connected and everybody is friends, the opportunity — with backwards compatibility — to migrate that community in a more efficient manner I think is massively more attractive for gamers and for us than at any point in the past,”
We know the PS5 is expected to release next year. The console will support 8K graphics and run off an eight-core CPU based on AMD’s Ryzen chips with a GPU based on AMD’s Radeon hardware. A big selling point is ray tracing support along with a new “3D audio” technology. With all that hardware, the backwards compatibility support is a big push for Sony and we will see how it plays out when the reveal of the console comes around.
