Mortal Kombat 1 Confirms Smoke and Rain Alongside New Kameos

Smoke and Rain have been confirmed as playable characters for Mortal Kombat 1 alongside new Kameo fighters including Frost, Scorpion, Sektor and Cyrax. NetherRealm Studios officially unveiled Mortal Kombat 1 a couple of months ago, promising a soft reboot of the franchise and semi-sequel to Mortal Kombat 11. The new universe aims to go back to the bloody franchise’s roots with its revamped roster. A couple of new fighters are now joining the game.

A new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 was recently released, showing Sub-Zero and Scorpion’s struggle to establish the Lin Kuei. Several cinematics were shown from the game’s main campaign which also included peeks at new fighters Smoke and Rain joining the action. However, Sektor, Scorpion, Frost and Cyrax will also be joining the roster, albeit as Kameos which basically act as assists in-game.

Mortal Kombat series co-creator Ed Boon previously stated that Kameo fighters will not be canon to the new universe, meaning players can easily play as Scorpion while using another version of Scorpion as an assist, or use Johnny Cage as a main while being assisted by the Jean Claude Van Damme Kameo version of the character. This should present plenty of opportunities to mix and match which characters synergise the best in combat.

The addition of Smoke gives some validity to a recently leaked roster of potential Mortal Kombat 1 fighters, though it’s worth noting that the list failed to mention Rain as one of the fighters so it’s best to take that with a massive grain of salt.
