Mortal Kombat 1 Ghostface DLC Scream

Mortal Kombat 1 Dialogue Files Hint at Ghostface DLC

Mortal Kombat 1 is officially out tomorrow, though some have already been playing it since last week thanks to early access via the deluxe edition. While we already have a list of guest characters arriving in the first Kombat Pack such as Homelander and Omni-Man, fans are digging through the game’s dialogue files and unearthing some interesting finds. In particular, one dataminer seems to have discovered dialogue in the game specifically for iconic Scream antagonist Ghostface.

Spotted by Reddit user KekanKok, a couple of dataminers discovered dialogue files in Mortal Kombat 1 for Ghostface, who has exchanges with the likes of Omni-Man and Takeda (both are included in Kombat Pack 1). While many assumed that the theme of Mortal Kombat 1‘s DLC characters would be superpowers or people with extraordinary abilities, the inclusion of Ghostface seems to suggest that the guest list might be aiming for a broader pop culture theme – unless you consider Ghostface someone with supernatural powers.

Ghostface is the face (no pun intended) of the long-running Scream horror movie franchise created by writer Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven. There have been six movies in the series so far with each donning a new Ghostface killer (or multiple killers), so the villain’s appearance in Mortal Kombat 1 probably won’t be based on any particular killer but rather encompass the overall persona of the character.

That said, we still recommend taking this with a pinch of salt. Developer NetherRealm Studios hasn’t confirmed any more DLC fighters beyond the first Kombat Pack yet and it might be a while until we hear official news about the second pack.

In related news, Mortal Kombat 1 recently received a launch trailer showing Shang Tsung in action. Actress Megan Fox will also voice the vampire Nitara in the game. Make sure you clear up a lot of hard drive space on PS5 as it requires over 100 GB of free space to install, not including day one patches. NetherRealm Studios confirmed that crossplay will not be supported at launch either.

Mortal Kombat 1 launches on 19 September 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch.
