Mortal Kombat 1 Gameplay Reveal Trailer Violent

Mortal Kombat 1 Gameplay Reveal is Gloriously Violent

Mortal Kombat series co-creator made an appearance at last night’s Summer Game Fest 2023 Opening Showcase to reveal the first look at Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay. As expected of the series, the gameplay is gloriously violent, featuring plenty of new and gory fatalities as well as story switch-ups that should make this “reboot” a lot more interesting if you’re already familiar with the characters. Additionally, a few new characters were also revealed.

“Do not mistake serenity for weakness,” reads the gameplay video’s description. “Chaos will be snuffed out with unrelenting force. A new era is upon us.” Mortal Kombat 1 is kind of a follow-up to Mortal Kombat 11‘s DLC, Aftermath, which showed Liu Kang ascend to become the new God of Fire. Liu Kang has now created his own reborn universe where things are much different. Character dynamics and backstories have changed but that can’t even stop Shang Tsung from disrupting the peace.

Apart from Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Kitana, Mileena and various characters that were already revealed in the announcement trailer, we also got confirmation of new characters joining the roster. These include Kenshi, a younger Raiden and the four-armed menace, Goro.

Boon explained the Kameo fighter system a bit more, stating that players can fight with background comrades that provide various assists in battle. They’re able to jump in on combos and continue the string or punish. Furthermore, Boon stated that Kameo fighters will consist of characters already featured in the roster so we (probably) don’t have to worry about our favourite characters being relegated to assists.

Since Johnny Cage’s character was originally modelled after actor Jean Claude Van Damme, Boon also confirmed that the studio managed to get the actor on board this time including his appearance and voice that will be used as a Kameo fighter.

Mortal Kombat 1 launches on 19 September 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch. Check out the bloody gameplay trailer below (the video has been age-restricted for obvious reasons, so proceed with caution):
