Mortal Kombat 1 Revealed Trailer Release Date September

Mortal Kombat 1 is Getting Story DLC and a Big Surprise Afterwards

Similar to Mortal Kombat 11‘s Aftermath expansion, Mortal Kombat 1 will receive story DLC in the near future along with a “big surprise” afterwards, according to series co-creator Ed Boon. NetherRealm Studios launched the latest Mortal Kombat entry in September as a fresh reset of the franchise (for the most part), meaning there are multiple possibilities for where the story could go next.

Speaking on a panel at Brazil’s CCXP23 event, Ed Boon spoke about the future of Mortal Kombat 1 and what fans can expect from the game in addition to the Kombat Pack DLC characters. Boon confirmed that the game would be getting story DLC that expands the narrative, though mentioned that fans can also look forward to a “big surprise” after that. He stopped short of mentioning what that surprise is but I guess that’s the point of the surprise.

Boon’s statement on the future of Mortal Kombat 1 reads:

“Well, just like we did with Mortal Kombat 11, we’re going to release a second part with more story. And we have a big surprise after that, so we’re going to be supporting the game for even longer than we did with Mortal Kombat 11. It’s gonna be fun.”

NetherRealm Studios revealed back in November that Mortal Kombat 1 had sold over 3 million copies since launch. The game has since seen numerous updates including a Seasonal Fatality bundle and a controversial update in which skins that were once earned through gameplay were now locked behind paywalls. To avoid paying for skins, players started resetting their console’s dates and times – a trick that allowed them to earn the skins fairly before they were made purchasable in the in-game store.

Mortal Kombat 1 is now available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch.
