Mortal Kombat 1 Revealed Trailer Release Date September

Mortal Kombat 1 Officially Revealed With Release Date

NetherRealm Studios and publisher Warner Bros Games has officially revealed Mortal Kombat 1, the next game in the franchise. In addition to a brutally violent CGI announcement trailer, the company also confirmed that it has a release date of 19 September 2023 for consoles and PC.

Mortal Kombat 1 appears to be a “soft” reboot of the fighting game franchise in a universe created by Fire God Liu Kang, who took up the mantle at the end of the Mortal Kombat 11 DLC, Aftermath. NetherRealm Studios describes it as a “reborn Mortal Kombat universe” that ushers in a new era of the iconic franchise. The CGI reveal trailer is brutal, features plenty of gory violence and promises clashes with some of the biggest characters in the series – so basically, it’s a Mortal Kombat game and it looks awesome.

NetherRealm Studios’ description of Mortal Kombat 1 reveals that a new fighting system will be implemented into the game alongside new game modes and fatalities. For the most part, it seems like a far more traditional Mortal Kombat experience than what came before which marks a return to the franchise’s roots. Hopefully it sticks the landing when it arrives later this year.

Unfortunately we may have to wait a little while longer to see some gameplay of Mortal Kombat 1, which could either be shown again at the upcoming PlayStation Showcase or Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. However, the release date isn’t too far off as it arrives in September this year.

The final thing to mention is Kameo fighters. The official website describes it as, “Choose from a unique roster of Kameo fighting partners to assist you in battle.” This implies that we’ll be able to bring in assist characters during matches, which could shake things up with fighting styles and strategies.

Additionally, players who pre-order Mortal Kombat 1 starting tomorrow will receive Shang Tsung as a playable character.

Mortal Kombat 1 releases on 9 September 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch. Check out the awesome reveal trailer below (graphic violence warning):
