Mortal Kombat 2 Movie Shares First Look at Karl Urban as Johnny Cage

The upcoming live-action Mortal Kombat 2 movie has shared its first official poster and logo, revealing Karl Urban as the charismatic goofball action star, Johnny Cage. The mock-up poster is presumably taken from one of Cage’s cheesy action movies, sticking pretty close to the character we all know and love from the video games.

The fake movie poster for Johnny Cage’s action movie is called ‘Uncaged Fury’ (from the studio that brought you ‘Rebel Without a Cage’). Karl Urban, who made quite an impression on fans after playing Billy the Butcher on Amazon’s The Boys, looks perfect in the role, though fans think Glen Powell would’ve been a better fit. Anyway, it’s good to see that the filmmakers behind the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 movie seem to really understand the characters, especially someone as narcissistic yet endearing as Johnny Cage.

Have a look at the poster for Uncaged Fury below:

Mortal Kombat 2 will be directed by Simon McQuoid who also directed the first live-action movie from 2021. Alongside Karl Urban, the cast consists of returning actors Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Josh Lawson as Kano, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Chin Han as Shang Thung, Max Huang as Kung Lao, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang and Joe Taslim who will play Noob Saibot instead of Sub-Zero.

Newcomers to the cast of the sequel include Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana and Ana Thu Nguyen as Sindel.

Mortal Kombat 2 was given an R-rating back in November 2024 for strong violence and gore – we didn’t expect any less from a Mortal Kombat movie. It’s currently set to release in cinemas on 24 October 2025.
