Warner Bros. Games today announced a new collection role-playing game based on the Mortal Kombat series set to launch across mobile devices in 2023. The game is being co-developed by NetherRealm Studios and is called Mortal Kombat: Onslaught.
According to WB Games, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught will feature an original and mobile-exclusive story experience set across the universe. It will tell stories never told before as players build their fighting team across a vast roster of iconic characters.
In Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, players will collect characters and build a team of fighters. These teams will then head off into real-time battles against enemies and bosses set to cause havoc on the various realms. By the sound of things, Mortal Kombat Onslaught aims to be a very different experience from the already-available Mortal Kombat Mobile game.
David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Games said:
“Mortal Kombat is a legendary franchise and pop culture phenomenon, and it continues to engage players and advance the fighting genre across multiple platforms. Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is a testament to why Mortal Kombat has been a top gaming franchise for over 30 years, as the NetherRealm team continues to innovate and bring new gameplay to fans.”
Series veteran Ed Boon says that Mortal Kombat: Onslaught aims to push boundaries for the series and will deliver a whole new and refreshing experience for players.
“With Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, we reimagined Mortal Kombat into a strategic team-based collection RPG with fast-paced, group melee combat that both new and existing fans can enjoy.”
