The MSI Claw has been one of the more controversial hardware releases of the year. The portable PC gaming device launched last month and was criticised for its high price tag and poor performance. In comparison to its competitors, the MSI Claw costs a lot more while offering much less.
In my review, I struggled to find the value in the MSI Claw given the steep price tag. The device costs R6,000 more than the ROG Ally, for example, and delivers a quarter of the performance.
MSI is determined to turn the Claw into an attractive option for gamers. The company has worked with Intel to patch the BIOS on the device and increase its performance. MSI now claims to “average 26% better performance than competitors in the top 100 most popular Steam games” (with upscaling enabled, of course).
The boost in performance is thanks to two performance-enhancing updates the Claw has received since its launch. MSI shared a comparison. Helldivers 2 averaged 50FPS in Performance Mode on “Low Graphics” with XeSS on at launch. The game now averages 62FPS with the same settings.
The latest versions of the E1T41IMS.109 BIOS (referred to as 109) and MSI Center M 1.0.2405.1401 (referred to as 2405.1401) for the Claw have been internally tested and shown to significantly enhance gaming performance. For instance, with the popular open-world racing game Forza Horizon 5, there was a performance increase of up to 30%. Other well-known games like Fortnite and Helldivers 2 also saw performance boosts of over 20% with the new BIOS and MSI Center M, providing a smoother gaming experience.
MSI Claw owners are urged to download the latest update from the MSI Center M.
