Multiple Publishers are Ready to Delay Their Games to Avoid GTA 6 – Report

Grand Theft Auto 6 has yet to get a release date but publishers are still waiting to pull the trigger on their own games’ release dates to avoid the ugly clash with what could be the biggest video game launch of the generation. According to a new reputable source, this seems to be the case in the gaming industry as publishers are reportedly holding their breaths for any news on GTA 6 before nailing down dates.

As reported by The Game Business, at least three major game publishers are holding off on announcing release dates for their upcoming games in order to avoid clashing with GTA 6. “Rockstar games always suck a lot of money and, more importantly, time out of the market,” reportedly said the boss of a very large game publisher. “We don’t want to be anywhere near that. We are working up multiple different plans for our titles.”

Another gaming executive stated, “Even without GTA. it’s immensely difficult to find free time for new games to shine. Time is the real scarcity for us, not money. It’s tough out there.”

A third AAA game publisher apparently told The Game Business, “We don’t want to launch just before or just after the game. If it arrives in late October, that means you either have to launch early – which a lot of people seem to be doing with the recent glut of summer release dates. Or go later, putting you up against the Black Friday sales.”

Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive have given fans and the gaming industry a vague fall 2025 release window for GTA 6 so far, so it’s no wonder that other publishers are shuffling to move around dates without having something concrete to work around. This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard about publishers potentially moving release dates around for GTA 6. Back in December 2024, another report claimed that they were simply waiting for a release date for Rockstar’s open-world game before making their own announcements.

GTA 6 launches in fall 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
