The Last of Us Part II has not even been out for a full year yet but Naughty Dog wants fans to know that the studio is currently working on new and exciting things. Studio co-president Neil Druckmann says that the developers are working on “several” cool things of which, we suspect there’s the rumoured “fantasy” game in there somewhere.
Druckmann took to Twitter to tease fans saying that while he can’t share anything specific, he wants people to know that there are several things being worked on at Naughty Dog and he will share the news as soon as he can.

Currently, it seems that whatever Naughty Dog are working on could be something completely new while at the same time, we know the studio is working on The Last of Us Part II multiplayer component called “Factions”. Rumours also claim that the studio is working on a special PS5 port of the game which will take advantage of the hardware and DualSense controller. Back in September, Druckmann said that the Factions mode will be worth the wait.

But it is not all good news. The gaming industry is suffering from multiple delays across the board. This is due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the rush to release games and hardware at the end of 2020 meant focusing on resources from other departments. This has left a void behind for most studios. Already, large games like Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy have been completely pushed into 2022.
We doubt we will see a new game release from Naughty Dog this year. They may simply focus on porting The Last of Us Part II to PS5 while releasing the Factions multiplayer mode.
