In September, developer Naughty Dog revealed that The Last of Us Part II won’t have the Factions multiplayer component and roughly one month later, they also delayed the game with more than a month until 29 May 2019. Now, the developer is hiring for an unannounced multiplayer game and it is most likely a standalone Factions title.

When Naughty Dog announced that The Last of Us Part II won’t have multiplayer, the developer explained that:
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#33FFD5″ class=”” size=”20″]You will eventually experience the fruits of our team’s online ambition, but not as part of The Last of Us Part II. When and where it will be realised is still to be determined. But rest assured, we are as big a fan of Factions as the rest of our community and are excited to share more when it is ready.[/perfectpullquote]
With that quote in mind, Vinit Agarwal, the lead game designer at Naughty Dog, tweeted out a job listing for an online systems programmer to join their multiplayer team at the developer’s headquarters in Santa Monica, Los Angeles.
Join us. We’ve got big ambitions and need you to help make it a reality. https://t.co/mskalPRwrP

Note how he also talks about the developer’s online ambitions just as they did in the post about Last of Us Part II not having multiplayer. Therefore, it is likely a standalone Factions experience that the developer is working on and hiring for. At the time of writing, however, Naughty Dog has not announced the project or even named it.
