Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet Naughty Dog Next Game

Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet New Details Revealed

New details for the upcoming game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet from The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog have been revealed. The game was originally announced during The Game Awards last December with a cinematic trailer promising space-faring sci-fi adventure with actress Tati Gabrielle. Naughty Dog has now shared the first details on the anticipated project, though it still seems to be a bit far off from release.

During Sony’s latest Creator to Creator series, Naughty Dog director Neil Druckmann revealed the new details for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. According to the post, the game is set 2000 years in the future in an alternate universe where the timeline deviates from our reality in the 1980s. Druckmann stated that he wanted to explore religion as one of the core themes of the project, so the story will feature a new religion that forms and gradually evolves over the years.

Unlike previous Naughty Dog games which had an ally or companion, this time, the studio wants players to feel isolated and alone in space, meaning there won’t be companions in the game. “I really wanted to make a game about faith and religion – but also about being lonely,” said Druckmann in the site post. Taking this theme of loneliness a step further, Gabrielle’s character will explore a planet where nobody has been heard from for 600 years, creating a pretty compelling mystery.

Speaking on the concept of religion in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Druckmann stated:

“With TLOU2, we made certain creative decisions that got us a lot of hate. A lot of people love it, a lot of people hated it […] The joke is, you know what let’s do something that people won’t care as much about. Let’s make a game about faith and religion.”

The video also mentioned that development is going smoothly but they “still have a ways to go” before its release. It will probably be a while before Sony mentions it again, though we can hopefully rely on bits of new information as time goes on.
