NBA 2K24 (and sports games in general) has overtaken Baldur’s Gate 3, the latest critically acclaimed RPG from Larian Studios, as the most downloaded PS5 game in September 2023. The latest charts reveal that 2K Games’ new basketball title triumphed over big September releases like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Mortal Kombat 1 to take the top spot, at least in the US and Canada.
The latest charts reveal that NBA 2K24 was another success for Take-Two Interactive, coming in at first place on the US and Canada charts while Baldur’s Gate 3 and Mortal Kombat 1 trailed behind in second and third place, respectively. EA Sports FC 24 grabbed the fourth spot though it shouldn’t come as a surprise considering that sales were apparently lower than FIFA 23. The new Soulslike game Lies of P is a bit further down on the list at number nine.

The usual suspects such as Grand Theft Auto V and Cyberpunk 2077, thanks to its new expansion Phantom Liberty, also managed to climb into the top 10 again for the US and Canadian charts. However, the most downloaded PS5 games in Europe tell a slightly different story as EA Sports FC 24 sits at the number one spot, beating out Baldur’s Gate 3 at number two. NBA 2K24 is in third place while, surprisingly, The Crew Motorfest occupies the fourth spot.

Despite being a turn-based RPG from a two decade-old franchise, Baldur’s Gate 3‘s success is still a notable achievement. When it originally launched on PC back in August, it peaked at over 810,000 players and topped 5.2 million downloads on Steam. Good word of mouth contributed to its solid launch on PS5 after pre-orders skyrocketed.
