Netflix has announced its new Mobile Plan pricing structure for South African subscribers. If you only binge the streaming service on your mobile device then this is the package you would want to stick with. Netflix says that the new Mobile Plan will live alongside its other monthly subscriptions including the Basic Plan, and 4K UHD Premium Plan.

The main push for the new Netflix Mobile Plan is to open up the service to new customers by allowing them to stream at a decent quality on a mobile device without paying a fortune to do so. This is why the Netflix Mobile Plan is capped at SD 520p streaming quality and costs only R49 per month.

Netflix says that the Mobile Plan allows users to access the service through the app across a tablet or a smartphone. It allows for one active SD 520p stream at any given time. The Mobile Plan comes with every single TV show and movie available on other plans. In addition, users can have up to five profiles created on this package but only one active stream at a time.

If you are wondering how much data this plan uses then Netflix also has you covered. According to the streaming service, the Mobile Plan makes use of an adaptive bitrate that intelligently makes streaming content more data-friendly. They say a user can get around 6.5 hours of content streamed on only 1GB of data.

The plan also makes use of the Smart Downloads feature that will only download the next episode of your content or your movie while connected to the Wi-Fi. It is also device friendly and is supported on lower-end Android devices with less than 1GB of RAM.

Netflix also introducing a new “Play Partial Download” feature that allows users on Android 7 and up to start the playback of a movie or show before it completes the download. The streaming service says there is no change to how you go about downloading your titles either. This helps subscribers save time especially if you have unreliable internet.
