Netflix today announced the launch of a new “Downloads For You” feature that is designed to automatically download recommended TV shows and movies based on your Netflix watch list and personal likes. The feature aims so ensure that users always have something downloaded to watch in case there’s no internet access (or in our case electricity).
Netflix says that users can choose how much space they want to be made available for the feature. This ranges from 1GB, 3GB or 5GB of download space per device. Once the Netflix Downloads For You setting is enabled, the algorithms will then get to work and automatically download certain content on your device.
Today we’re launching Downloads For You, a new feature that automatically downloads recommended shows or movies to your mobile device based on your tastes. Whether you’re a comedy fan stuck on a long car ride or a rom com lover without internet, we do the work so there is always something new waiting to entertain and delight you.
In order to set up Netflix Downloads For You, users need to go to the “downloads” tab on their device and toggle it on. Netflix says that the more space they allocate for the service the more content recommendations will be downloaded.
It will be interesting to see how accurate the content will be for users and whether or not viewers will actually enjoy what the app automatically downloads. I know from experience that often Netflix recommends movies and shows which turn out to be in a different language. Let’s hope the app knows what you will watch.
The Netflix Downloads For You feature is now available globally on Android and in testing on iOS. It should roll out across all devices and apps in the coming weeks.
