Netflix Greenlights Squid Game Season 2 with Teaser Trailer

Netflix has confirmed a second season of the South Korean hit series, Squid Game. Season 2 was announced with a brief teaser trailer showing the infamous “Red Light, Green Light” animatronic doll, emphasising “green light” as Netflix officially greenlighting the new season.

According to Variety, Squid Game season 2 will continue after the events established in the first season. The show’s creator, writer, director and executive producer Hwang Dong-Hyuk also detailed some returning characters from the last season.

Hwang Dong-Hyuk offered a brief comment on what viewers can expect in the second season of Squid Game:

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year. But it took 12 days for ‘Squid Game’ to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director and producer of ‘Squid Game,’ a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.

The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. Join us once more for a whole new round.”

A second season of Squid Game was an inevitability as the first season managed to become one of Netflix’s most successful shows of all time, breaking many viewership records. Last November, Dong-Hyuk already confirmed that he was in the process of writing the next outing shortly after the monumental success of the first season.

Though plot details remain vague, we can probably expect more death games to appear in the new season as it’s become a staple of the series. The animatronic doll that introduced players to the games will make another appearance in season 2 as well, though it will be interesting to see how they reinvigorate some sadistically creative ideas.

Squid Game season 2 has been greenlit but no official release date has been given. Check out the teaser below.
