Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the upcoming anime from Studio Trigger based on CD Projekt RED’s game Cyberpunk 2077, has received its opening credits courtesy of Netflix. The video was released yesterday set to the tune of Franz Ferdinand’s “This Fire”, ahead of its September premiere date.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners arrives from Studio Trigger, the Tokyo-based animation company best known for anime shows like Kill la Kill, Darling in the Franxx and Promare. The opening credits are stylised to match Cyberpunk 2077‘s trademark yellow colour scheme and its flashy presentation.

The anime series will be directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (known for Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill and Promare), and will feature an original score by famed Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka.
The opening credits were first shown at Anime Expo 2022 currently taking place in Los Angeles. In addition to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, we also got new looks at anticipated upcoming anime like Mob Psycho 100 Season 3, Trigun Stampede and Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. An anime adaptation of the South Korean manhwa Solo Leveling was also announced at the expo.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners won’t directly adapt the video game it’s based on, but rather tell its own standalone story. “The series tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in Night City — a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future,” reads the official blurb. “Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.”
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will debut on Netflix this September and run for 10 episodes. Studio Trigger also previously worked on an episode of the anime-themed Disney series Star Wars: Visions and are currently working on a long-awaited sequel to Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.
