Netflix Releases Sonic Prime Season 2’s First Episode on YouTube

The first episode for season 2 of the Netflix series, Sonic Prime, is currently available to watch for free on YouTube ahead of the season’s air date on 13 July. Sonic Prime is an animated series based on the popular SEGA mascot Sonic the Hedgehog on his adventures as he crosses other familiar faces from the Sonic universe as well as the wider multiverse.

The first season of Sonic Prime debuted on Netflix in December 2022 and consisted of eight episodes. When it was announced back in February 2021, Netflix originally stated that the show would run for 24 episodes though it seems like plans changed leading up to its release. The series follows the story of Sonic as he accidentally creates the Shatterverse, a multiverse of alternate dimensions featuring different versions of his friends and foes.

The first episode of season 2, titled “Avoid the Void”, picks up after the ending of the last season. “Sonic and his crew battle cyborgs, robots and the Chaos Council in this adventure series based on the popular video game,” said Netflix when talking about season 2.

In related Sonic news, the third Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie is currently in the works at Paramount Pictures and will once again star Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic and Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles. James Marsden is also set to reprise his role as Tom Wachowski. Unfortunately, the third movie has not yet confirmed if Jim Carrey will return as the villain Dr. Robotnik. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to release sometime in 2024.

In gaming, SEGA recently announced Sonic Superstars, a new 2D side-scrolling platformer game thats meant to be a throwback to the older Sonic titles.
