Yesterday we reported on the massive success that Netflix’s The Witcher was. Hitting 76 million views within its release month, the first season of the show has no doubt been a huge accomplishment. Netflix wants to continue to ride that wave and has announced it will be releasing a Witcher anime in the coming future produced by the famous Korean animation house Studio Mir.
While details of the upcoming The Witcher Anime are scarce, a press release states that the anime will explore “a powerful new threat facing the Continent”. The anime will also be titled “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf” and expand the Netflix live-action show. It is not clear how this will work and how the two will align storywise.
According to Netflix’s The Witcher live-action showrunner Lauren Hissrich, she has known about the anime for a while and has kept it a secret for over a year. This gives us some idea of how long the project has been in development already. The team behind “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf” includes Hissrich and Beau DeMayo.
It’s a big day here in #TheWitcher world — and I’ve been keeping this one secret for over a year! https://t.co/9Rp1ftDO0p

Studio Mir is best known for their fantastic work on projects like The Legend of Korra and Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defender. If all goes to plan, we could see the anime release in late 2020 as according to rumours, it has been well into production for some time already. We will keep you updated.
