The live-action One Piece series at Netflix doesn’t have a release date yet for its second season, which was greenlit soon after the first season shattered records for the streaming service. Filming is currently underway in Cape Town, though one actor from the show has now given fans a rough estimate for when to expect the next season’s arrival: before Christmas 2025.
As reported by What’s on Netflix, Vincent Regan, who plays Vice-Admiral Garp in the live-action One Piece series, was interviewed by CerealKillerz where he gave an update on when to expect from season 2 of the series as well as a brief update on the third season. According to Regan, he has finished all of his scenes for season 2 and expects season 3 to begin filming very soon – confirming an older report that the second and third seasons could be filmed back-to-back. Regan also added that the second season is aiming for a Christmas 2025 release.
Regan’s comment reads:
“I’ve come back from South Africa now. I’ve filmed season 2, everything my character is doing in season 2 is finished, and now they are finishing in about a month, I think they’ll finish filming. So I think the show will be ready for Netflix before Christmas next year. I hope. And I guess they’ll start filming season 3 pretty soon, and I think they are doing- I think it’s called the Alabasta story arc. I think it’s going to take two seasons. What I’ve seen of the designs, drawings, and when I was there there was some really fun stuff being shot there at the moment.”
One key takeaway from Regan’s response is that the Alabasta story arc from the source material, which is one of the longest in One Piece, will likely take two seasons to fully adapt. This raises an interesting question about how long the live-action series will take – or rather, how far it will go – to adapt One Piece‘s major story arcs.
