NetherRealm Studios is Already Working on its Next AAA Game After Mortal Kombat 1

Developer NetherRealm Studios is already working on its next AAA game after Mortal Kombat 1. This is according to a recent job listing at WB Games seeking an associate producer for an unannounced AAA project. Some fans think this might be hinting at Injustice 3, though others believe it might be an original fighting game.

Mortal Kombat 1 launched last year to mostly positive reviews. NetherRealm Studios has since released several guest characters and announced a new story expansion called Khaos Reigns, which will also include a new roster of guest fighters such as Conan The Barbarian and Ghostface from Scream. Takeda Takahashi was the last DLC fighter to appear as part of Kombat Pack 1, who arrived in the game a month ago.

It seems like NetherRealm Studios is already moving forward with its next mysterious AAA project. A user on the forums for Exputer noticed a new job listing at WB Games seeking an associate producer to work on an unannounced AAA project at the Mortal Kombat studio. Not much information was given in this job description, though fans have drawn their own theories and speculated on what it could be.

The most prominent theory is that this could be hinting at Injustice 3 finally being in the works. Apart from the long-running Mortal Kombat franchise, NetherRealm Studios also previously developed the Injustice fighting games, which pitted several DC heroes and villains against each other. It’s been a while since Injustice 2 launched back in 2017, so now seems like the perfect time to deliver a third entry in the DC fighting game franchise.

Others believe that NetherRealm could be moving onto a different title entirely – either it’s a new IP, the long-rumoured Marvel vs. DC or a remake/sequel to Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, which has been widely requested by fans for years. It seems like development might still be in the early stages so it will be a while before we see this mystery project.
