The latest DLC for Alan Wake 2, titled The Lake House, has seemingly teased the next game from Remedy Entertainment. The award-winning developer previously already confirmed what its next game would be (or at least one of its upcoming games), though we won’t mention it just yet. On that note, be aware of major spoilers in the paragraphs below.
As reported by Video Games Chronicle, there’s one section of The Lake House DLC for Alan Wake 2 where players meet a mysterious character who has connections to The Oldest House, the setting for Remedy’s 2019 title, Control. At one point, the character turns to the camera and says, “Tell Jesse I tried.” Jesse Faden is the protagonist of Control. A short cutscene then plays showing The Oldest House as well as the streets of New York City, potentially setting up Control 2.
This seems to be go against Remedy Entertainment’s previous word that the two expansions for Alan Wake 2 would not set up Control 2. “The expansions give us an opportunity to glimpse aspects of our universe that were not able to explore in Alan Wake 2 otherwise,” said director Sam Lake at the time. “We are excited about this. We were happy with what we achieved with Control’s AWE expansion regarding setting up Alan Wake 2. That said, we are not looking to repeat that exactly.”
“The Lake House will have a big focus on the Federal Bureau of Control and its research facility at Cauldron Lake. Beyond that, no matter how much, there will be hints about things to come in the Control sequel, you’ll have to wait and see,” he added.
Remedy Entertainment already confirmed that Control 2 was in development back in November 2022 for current-gen consoles and PC, so we know the sequel is coming, though we don’t have a date or release window yet.
Alan Wake 2 is available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
