New year, new iPhone. Apple has announced the iPhone 14 range and they come with some notable changes. For starters, the iPhone 14 base range will now include a “Plus” model. This is something Apple has ignored since the introduction of the Pro range back on the iPhone 11.
The iPhone 14 comes with the A15 Bionic SoC which includes a 5-core GPU and 6-core CPU. It also comes with improved thermal housing meaning it can withstand more heat when you’re busy with it or playing games. The camera system has also seen a bump in improvements. They now feature Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG video recording.

When it comes to the advanced, high-end iPhone 14 models, of course, we are getting the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. The biggest change on the new iPhone 14 Pro range is the notch change. Apple has now moved the notch away from the top of the phone and onto the display itself. Apple has also worked iOS into the pill-shaped hole so that the software feels natural. The company also moved the sensor behind the display which has substantially shrunk the size of the pill.
Apple calls the way the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro works with iOS called Dynamic Island. In short, the pill on the display is this “Dynamic Island” and in a way, it looks like an interactive camera sensor as it extends and expands depending on what you’re doing. When you’re playing music, for example, Dynamic Island turns into a player and is always available on the home screen. It adapts in real time and is always visible for ongoing activities. When using Uber, it will show you how far the driver is no matter what app you open.
The screen can meet an all-time high peak brightness of 1600 nits. The display is also getting always-on support. This is thanks to a brand-new technology implemented into the phone. Made possible by a more power-efficient display operating at as low as 1Hz. It intelligently dims as needed, and refreshes with minimal power. Time, widgets, and live activity are always available on the display even when you’re not using it.
When it comes to the camera system, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max come with a new 48MP camera lens and new low-light features. It also comes with the Action Mode with advanced stabilization.
iPhone 14 Pro Features
- 6.1 and 6.7 OLED with always-on display
- 1600 nits display
- 48MP Pro Camera
- 12MP UltraWide
- 2x and 3x low-light performance camera
- Space black, silver, gold deep purple
