The upcoming Barbie movie from Lady Bird and Little Women director Greta Gerwig has received a new teaser trailer ahead of the movie’s release this July. The movie is based on the popular fashion doll manufactured by Mattel but seems to be going in its own self-aware direction. A star-studded cast including Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling lead the movie.
The new trailer for Barbie is set in the toy world where everyone is Barbie and almost every guy is Ken. The live-action outing casts Margot Robbie as the titular (main) Barbie while Ryan Gosling flexes his muscles as Ken. However, he’s joined by Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu who also plays another Ken. The movie is drenched in vibrant colours and seems to be ripped straight out of a fever dream, though it’s pretty self-aware about how ridiculous the premise seems to be.

The rest of the cast is enough to make Wes Anderson blush. Apart from Gosling, Robbie and Liu, the movie will also feature actors such as Michael Cera (yes, you read that correctly), Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Helen Mirren, John Cena (you read that correctly too), Dua Lipa, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa, Rhea Perlman and Alexandra Shipp, among many others.
The official description under the new trailer for Barbie reveals the talent behind the production of the movie:
“Gerwig directed Barbie from a screenplay by Gerwig & Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story, The Squid and the Whale), based on Barbie by Mattel. The film’s producers are Oscar nominee David Heyman (Marriage Story, Gravity), Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Robbie Brenner, with Michael Sharp, Josey McNamara, Ynon Kreiz, Courtenay Valenti, Toby Emmerich and Cate Adams serving as executive producers.”
Barbie arrives in cinemas on 21 July 2023. Check out the latest trailer below:
