Next Battlefield Game Civil War Movie Inspired

New Battlefield Game’s Campaign is Inspired by Civil War Movie

The next Battlefield game from EA and developer DICE is hot on the way, though the publisher is keeping it under wraps for now. New information is coming out about the new first-person shooter, confirming that it will have a campaign (something that was excluded in Battlefield 2042). A developer at EA Motive, the studio behind the Dead Space remake and a support studio on the next Battlefield, revealed that the game’s campaign was inspired by an unexpected movie: Alex Garland’s Civil War.

Speaking to Inverse in a recent interview, EA Motive creative director Roman Campos-Oriola revealed that the upcoming Battlefield game’s campaign draws some inspiration from the TV show Lioness, starring Zoe Saldana and Nicole Kidman. Lioness’ description reads, “CIA operative Joe attempts to balance her personal and professional lives as the tip of the spear in the agency’s war on terror.”

Meanwhile, senior producer Philippe Ducharme is a big fan of 2024’s Civil War directed by Alex Garland. The movie is set in a fictional second American civil war and follows a group of war photographers on their way to interview the president. “Some of the things that we’re pushing [in this game], the film is actually a good reference,” said Ducharme. Campos-Oriola said the theme for the next game will follow “talented but ordinary people put in extraordinary situations.”

Battlefield is better known for its multiplayer but it was also praised in the past for having strong single-player campaigns, particularly Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 1, which told various short stories taking place across WWI. Battlefield V also included a single-player campaign that followed the blueprint of Battlefield 1 but it wasn’t as well-received.

EA confirmed that the next Battlefield game will launch before March 2026 and might be fully revealed this summer. The game is expected to launch with 10 maps and feature a modern-day setting.
