We know that the new Bioshock game is currently in development at Cloud Chamber and we also know that the game is being developed for current-gen hardware. However, it seems that Sony may have taken out their chequebooks again and paid Take-Two for PS5 exclusivity. According to an insider who recently spoke on the latest XboxEra podcast, the new Bioshock game is a PS5 exclusive.
While details are scarce at this time, on the latest episode of the Xbox Era podcast, host Nick “Shpeshal_Ed” Baker claims to have heard from a source that Sony is pursuing the next shooter as a PlayStation exclusive release. Baker did not share any concrete details regarding this agreement. However, right now the game could either be a timed-PS5 exclusive or a standalone PlayStation console release which is doubtful.
Over the past few months, we have heard and reported that Sony was investing heavily in PS5 exclusive games. Not only does this include future titles such as Final Fantasy XVI, Ghostwire Tokyo, Deathloop and many more but reports claim that Sony is looking at acquiring unannounced titles too. Sony does have a strong relationship with Take-Two. The company recently invested money into the publisher to hopefully secure more exclusive releases in the future.
We have also seen Sony bask in the money that GTA V makes for Take-Two. The company recently announced an exclusive partnership with the upcoming PS5 release of Grand Theft Auto V and its free trial version for GTA Online. Take-Two and Sony have had a strong partnership across a handful of games. Be it cosmetic items for Red Dead Redemption or in-game currency for GTA Online.
Bioshock being a timed PS5 exclusive release does not sound impossible given the circumstances. However, take this with a pinch of salt until we see or hear more about the game. Bioshock 4 is still in early development so that might take a while.
