SNK has officially teased the very long-awaited return of Fatal Fury at Evo 2022 after 23 years since the series’ last entry. The beloved classic fighting game series, which featured Terry Bogard as its lead protagonist, is finally set to make a comeback, though SNK didn’t offer much information other than an announcement of the project getting greenlit.
The message in the teaser video for the new Fatal Fury reads: “The city of legend still breathes. Hungry Wolves back on the prowl. A new destiny hidden in darkness. New Fatal Fury / Garou greenlit.”

The last Fatal Fury game released was Garou: Mark of the Wolves (also known as Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves on Dreamcast), released in 1999. Despite not seeing a new entry in over two decades, several characters from its roster – including Terry Bogard, Joe Higashi and Mai Shiranui – have all appeared on other fighting games such as The King of Fighters. Terry famously appeared in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate too.
In addition to the teaser, SNK confirmed that veteran illustrator Aki Senno (or better known by her pen name Tonko) will create the artwork for the new Fatal Fury. She previously worked on the character designs and illustrations for Garou: Mark of the Wolves, so fans can be assured that the new Fatal Fury game will at least feature its signature art style.
Judging by the teaser, it seems like the project is only in the early stages of development as it was just greenlit at SNK. We’ll be waiting at least two or three more years until we hear more about the next Fatal Fury, but it’s good to see a classic fighting game franchise make a return. Hopefully Bloody Roar is next.
