During the State of Unreal showcase event which played host to the technical trailer for Lords of the Fallen, Ninja Theory and Epic Games also teased fans with a new video for Hellblade 2. The snippet doesn’t show us much gameplay and we don’t even know whether or not this level or realism will appear in the final product but it is still pretty cool to look at anyway.
The video shows off the Metahuman Tool in Unreal Engine 5 and how Ninja Theory is using it to bring life-like facial animations to Senua in the game.

According to Unreal, this Metahuman Tool is cloud-based technology which allows developers to create photorealistic digital humans for games. Kim Librerim from Epic says:
“This cloud hosted tool allows you to create photorealistic digital humans for your game or experience, with the simplicity of an RPG character creator, yet with a level of realism and customisation that you’ve never seen before.”
The video starts out with Melina Juergens, who stars as Senua in the video game series, taking to the stage to perform her skit. However, the video goes dark after a close-up on her face and switches to the digital render of Senua.
The result is the video you see down below.
Hellblade 2 is currently in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC. The game was announced back in 2019. Microsoft did showcase the first gameplay for Hellblade 2 in December 2021. However, the game hasn’t been seen since.
