New Hideo Kojima Photo Hints at Another State of Play

Hideo Kojima, the renowned creator and game director of the Metal Gear franchise and Death Stranding, was recently featured in a photo on Twitter showing him editing something, leading many fans to speculate that it’s a new trailer for Death Stranding 2. More interestingly, eagle-eyed fans also noticed that the file name on his computer seems to be labelled as a State of Play trailer, suggesting that another PlayStation event could be on its way soon.

The photo was uploaded by Kojima’s assistant, Ayako, showing the director editing the trailer for a mystery game on his PC. Upon closer inspection at the file name in the editing software, fans noticed that it says ‘State of Play’ followed by ‘trailer_DS2.’

DS2 is obviously Death Stranding 2, the sequel to the 2019 open-world game starring Norman Reedus. However, if the file name is anything to go by, then the next trailer will be unveiled at a future State of Play event. PlayStation recently held a new State of Play earlier this month that revealed new trailers for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and more, though it’s possible that another smaller State of Play could happen in the next month or two as well.

Death Stranding 2 was first unveiled at The Game Awards 2022 with a fittingly cryptic reveal trailer, showing Sam Porter Bridges (played by Reedus) albeit a bit more aged since we last saw him in the first game. Of course, it’s full of vague secrets and details that players have been digging through for months now. A new trailer should hopefully give players a taste of the gameplay and potentially a release date, presumably as a PS5 exclusive.

The cast not only features the return of Reedus but also Lea Seydoux who will reprise her role as Fragile and actress Elle Fanning who has an unknown role in the game.

The latest photo of Kojima has kicked up a storm online about another State of Play and even more excitingly, another look at the next Death Stranding. Hopefully this isn’t an elaborate joke and we might get a second PlayStation event sooner rather than later.
