The latest trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux has arrived and building off the first trailer, we get a better idea of how the musical elements are going to work in the movie. On paper, it sounds pretty strange but the trailer successfully reflects the madness and chaos of Arthur Fleck’s mental state and how delusional he has become.
Joining Joaquin Phoenix who is returning in the role of Arthur Fleck/Joker is Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, who appears to be a patient in Arkham Asylum where Arthur is confined. She’s clearly infatuated with him, or the idea of him, leading the duo to form a twisted romance that plays by its own rules and boundaries. The trailer also teases some courtroom drama, suggesting that we’ll see Joker’s actions – and how it “inspired” society – come full circle.
Joker: Folie à Deux also stars Catherine Keener (Get Out, Being John Malkovich), Brandon Gleeson (In Bruges, The Village), Steve Coogan (Philomena, Alan Partridge), Ken Leung (Old, Lost) and Jacob Lofland (Mud, Maze Runner). Zazie Beetz will also reprise her role as Sophie Dumond from the first movie.
The description for Joker: Folie à Deux provided by Warner Bros. reads:
“From acclaimed writer/director/producer Todd Phillips comes Joker: Folie À Deux, the much-anticipated follow-up to 2019’s Academy Award-winning Joker, which earned more than $1 billion at the global box office and remains the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. The new film stars Joaquin Phoenix once again in his Oscar-winning dual role as Arthur Fleck/Joker, opposite Oscar winner Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born). Joker: Folie À Deux finds Arthur Fleck institutionalized at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only stumbles upon true love, but also finds the music that’s always been inside him.”
