Last night during Gamescom Opening Night Live, NetherRealm Studios and series co-creator Ed Boon debuted a new trailer for the upcoming fighting game, Mortal Kombat 1, introducing a younger Raiden along with the Outworld villains Shao Kahn (or General Shao for now) and empress Sindel along with Shujinko and Motaro as Kameos.
The latest trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 sees a rebooted universe by the new Fire God Liu Kang, which means most characters aren’t fully developed into the familiar fighters we know today. Instead, Shao Kahn is introduced as General Shao since “Kahn” is a title he has to earn once he’s climbed up the ranks. Sindel appears to be governing Outworld as its empress too, meaning Shao has yet to rise to power.

Interestingly, Shao uses an ax instead of a hammer in Mortal Kombat 1 and he’s a lot more brutal with a sharp blade, while Sindel still utilises a mix of telekinesis and her hair to perform deadly combos. Motaro and Shujinko were also introduced in the trailer but they’re Kameos, meaning they won’t be part of the actual roster.
In related news, previous Mortal Kombat 1 trailers also introduced characters such as Reptile and Havik as well as Smoke and Rain, among many Kameo fighters. We recent got our hands on the pre-order beta for the game which allowed us to try out a handful of fighters like Kitana, Liu Kang, Johnny Cage and more. You can read our full impressions right here.
