Mortal Kombat 12 Teaser Another Series Reboot Ed Boon

New Mortal Kombat 12 Teaser Hints at Another Series Reboot

NetherRealm Studios and Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon have released a second teaser for Mortal Kombat 12, further hinting at another series reboot. This arrives in light of a “Thank You” video from the studio that featured several NetherRealm developers thanking the community for making Mortal Kombat a success in celebration of its 30-year anniversary. The video ended with a teaser showing a grain of sand in an hourglass exploding and we now have another Mortal Kombat-related tease.

The short clip was recently uploaded by Boon on his Twitter account showing a clock ticking to midnight but before it can strike 12, the hand violently jumps to 1 instead. As many fans pointed out, this is evidence that suggests another timeline reboot of the Mortal Kombat series is on the way.

This isn’t the first time that the Mortal Kombat franchise rebooted itself. In 2011, Mortal Kombat 9 (or simply called Mortal Kombat) was essentially a reset of the franchise while Mortal Kombat 11 could be considered a “soft reboot” too. It’s unclear exactly how NetherRealm plans to reboot the series again, whether it will be another soft reset or a hard one and how time travel will play a role in achieving that, if at all.

With all the teasers ramping up over the past few weeks, it seems likely that we’ll get an official reveal of Mortal Kombat 12 very soon. Most signs seem to point to one of the major gaming showcases taking place during the summer. It could either appear at Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, the Xbox Games Showcase or PlayStation’s rumoured showcase, though our money is on Summer Game Fest since Mortal Kombat 11 was officially revealed at another Keighley event, The Game Awards, and he seems to have a healthy relationship with Warner Bros Games.
