Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has shared a little bit of new information regarding his latest project at the PlayStation studio. During an online panel with BioShock creator Ken Levine, Druckmann revealed that development on his latest game has been underway since 2020 at Naughty Dog.
It seems that this project kicked off right after the launch of The Last of Us Part II. Fans have speculated that Druckmann’s new game is going to be a fantasy RPG but there’s been no confirmation yet. We have only seen leaked concept art, but even that doesn’t confirm the project’s theme.
During the panel, Druckmann says that Sony has given him full creative control over the new Naughty Dog game. He is able to make any decision he needs and steer the project in any direction. However, the director did say that Sony has barred him from making any marketing decisions for the project. So the company wants to decide how to announce the game and when to share such an announcement.
Druckmann has stated in the past that Sony hasn’t put any pressure on Naughty Dog to develop this new game. Given the four-year development of the project now, we can rest assured things are going well at the studio. Naughty Dog has been focusing on The Last of Us for a while now. Last year, the studio cancelled the online multiplayer game while also releasing a remake of the first game and remaster of Part II.
While Sony didn’t have the best blockbuster exclusive lineup this year, next year promises to deliver Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei. We’re also waiting for Marvel’s The Wolverine somewhere down the line. Add that to this Naughty Dog game and there are things to look forward to.
