New Persona Fighting Game in the Works Atlus

New Persona Fighting Game Reportedly in The Works

A new Persona fighting game is in the works, according to a new report. The Persona series is best known for its mainline turn-based entries but developer Atlus has dabbled in other genres for the series over the decade. Persona 5 Tactica, for example, is the newly announced tactics game based on Persona 5. However, the leaker who originally leaked the existence of a Persona 3 remake (which has since been confirmed) now claims that Atlus has been working on a new fighting game in the franchise.

The leak originates from Twitter user MbKKssTBhz5 who was accurate in their leak for Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Tactica. Taking to Twitter yesterday, the user claimed that Atlus has been working on a new Persona fighter since 2015, though a lot has changed from the “original concept” since then. This led to fans being worried that the game had been cancelled internally but that doesn’t seem to be the case, according to the leaker.

The Persona series is no stranger to the fighting game genre. Atlus teamed up with Guilty Gear developer Arc System Works back in 2012 to develop Persona 4 Arena, a fighting game that brought together the cast of Persona 4 in a stylish brawler. It also marked the first Persona game to be released that wasn’t an RPG.

Since the release of Persona 4 Arena, fans were left wondering if Atlus had any plans to give Persona 5 the same fighting game treatment. This recent leak doesn’t indicate if the unannounced figher will be directly linked to Persona 5 but it lines up with previous rumours that suggested Atlus had more related projects in the works.

The same leaker recently offered some details on the status of Persona 6, stating that the anticipated next mainline entry will be unveiled next year alongside another spin-off game. Fans believe that this mystery spin-off game might be the fighting game from the recent report, though we’ll just have to wait and see if it all turns out to be accurate.
