PlayStation is reportedly set to host a new event in May that will seemingly shed light on its release schedule for the year. This will take the form of either a PlayStation Showcase or another State of Play event, though we’ll likely only get confirmation from Sony closer to the time.
The report originates from Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, who has a track record of reliable leaks and inside information in the industry. Grubb said that he’s heard “a bunch of times” that a PlayStation Showcase or State of Play is planned for sometime in May. The journalist added that he’s expecting Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake to make an appearance at this show, where it could receive a release date.
Grubb stated:
“I have heard that there will be a PlayStation something, either a State of Play or a Showcase, next month, in May, so [Silent Hill 2] is probably going to be there. I’ve heard both a Showcase and maybe State of Play. It seems like it might lean towards Showcase, it’s definitely in that timeframe of when they did the Showcase last year.”
PlayStation held a Showcase event in May 2023 which not only revealed the PlayStation Portal but also a handful of new games including Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Foamstars, Marathon, Concord and many others. The show was met with a mixed reception from fans who felt that Sony had little to actually show from its major first-party studios and focused more on teasing live service titles that are still potentially years off from release.
The Silent Hill 2 remake received its first gameplay back in February this year but it wasn’t accompanied by any release date. If Grubb is accurate, then we can expect the anticipated remake to show up at the new PlayStation Showcase. Sony’s release calendar for the second half of 2024 is mostly empty so that will be a good release window for Bloober Team and Konami’s psychological horror title.
