New Santa Monica Studio Game Concept Art and Details Leaked

Alleged concept art and details about God of War developer Santa Monica Studio’s next game has been leaked. The last game released by Sony’s first-party studio, 2022’s God of War Ragnarok, seemed to end on a pretty conclusive note, leaving fans to wonder if the company would continue the story or reset with a new IP. According to a new leak, Santa Monica Studio is working on a new type of fantasy game that’s not linked to Kratos’ adventures.

As reported by Reddit user KekanKok, images of the supposed next game from Santa Monica Studio recently surfaced on 4chan, showing actress Debra Wilson (who previously did motion capture and voice acted in God of War Ragnarok, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor) seemingly dressed in medieval attire with face paint and piercings. On the odd chance that these images are legitimate, we won’t be posting direct links to them but you can see them for yourself in the Reddit thread (linked below).

The 4chan post that leaked the alleged images also gave some new details about the next game from Santa Monica Studio, claiming that it will be a “science fantasy” game set in the future where humanity has regressed to medieval times. Humans are able to harness and control magic through a technological device “similar to a nuclear reactor that is the last remnant of humanity’s golden age.”

Here’s where things get a little weird. According to the leaked details, the main kingdom in the game is threatened by a dark society of wizards who plan to summon a space demon (very heavy metal). The game will also feature a female protagonist while Debra Wilson will play “an important NPC who helps the protagonist in her mission.”

Back in August 2023, Santa Monica Studio began hiring for its next mystery game, putting out job listings for a combat designer. Cory Barlog, who served as the game director on 2018’s God of War, took a backseat as the creative director on God of War Ragnarok, which many assume means he has been quietly working on another project.

As with all rumours, especially those from 4chan, take all of this with a big grain of salt.
