A new Spyro game has seemingly been teased by the official Twitter/X account for the franchise, potentially either being announced and/or arriving in 2024. This follows developer Toys for Bob also teasing news last year in a similar fashion, posting an image to social media for the new year potentially concerning a new game announcement. It looks like 2024 might actually be the year of Spyro the Dragon, though.
Rumours about a new Spyro game began around early 2020 when the character appeared in an unrelated Crash Bandicoot 4 art book, giving fans hope that the beloved purple dragon would be making a triumphant return. Technically, Spyro already made a comeback with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy last generation, which bundled a number of remasters/remakes for the older Spyro games. However, an official new entry is long overdue.

Over on the official Spyro the Dragon Twitter/X account, a new image was uploaded with the caption “2024 Motto.” The image shows Spyro on a rocket-powered surfboard alongside the phrase “you gotta believe!” Fans believe that this might be a tease for a new game, though we’ll just have to wait and see if any official announcement is made this year.

This has also raised some discussions online about where or not the next Spyro game will be exclusive to Xbox. The IP under Activision Blizzard was bought by Microsoft following its massive $69 billion acquisition being approved, so there’s a slight possibility that the new game will be exclusive to Xbox Series X/S and won’t be released on Nintendo or PlayStation platforms. Considering that Spyro originally began as a PlayStation mascot all the way back on the PS1, that would be quite the turn of events. The same can now be said about Crash Bandicoot.
