Stellar Blade recently launched its long-awaited Nier: Automata DLC update which added a bit more than just 2B outfits to the action game. Developer Shift Up also provided a bunch of fixes and quality of life improvements. Most of all, the new update punishes players for trying to look up protagonist Eve’s skirt.
SweetyGonzalez highlighted this new feature on Reddit showing YouTuber Faz Faz repeatedly trying to sway the camera to get it at an angle so that it’s, well, revealing a particularly lewd shot under Eve’s skirt. Breaking the fourth wall, Eve then kicks the player (or the camera) away from her. If you try this multiple times, Eve is always going to kick the camera away.
If anything, this shows that Shift Up is well aware of some of the more sexualised content in the game and how players perceive it. After all, it was game director Hyung-Tae Kim who previously explained that the team put “special attention” into Eve’s back since that is what the player will be looking at for the majority of the game. Kim elaborated on that point:
“I personally think that compared to movies, animations, manga and so on, people are especially strict towards games. In games, there’s all the views that people have [which are] not always positive about unrealistically beautiful characters. Honestly, when I play a game I would like to see someone who is better-looking than myself. That’s what I want. I don’t want to see something normal; I want to see something more ideal. I think that is very important in a form of entertainment. This is, after all, entertainment targeted for adults.”
Since the launch of the game, Shift Up has dropped a handful of updates that introduced new outfits for Eve to wear, some of them being revealing swimsuits.
Stellar Blade is available on PS5.
