New Subnautica Game in Early Development

A new Subnautica game is currently in early development according to a recent job listing from developer Unknown Worlds.

Subnautica is a phenomenal exploration and survival title set on an ocean planet where you have to get your stranded character off-world or just build the greatest underwater palace that would make Atlantis blush.

The recent listing states that Unknown Worlds is looking for a Senior Narrative Designer to assist with the next instalment in the Subnautica universe.

Scarce on more details we are not sure if the next title will be a fully-fledged sequel, a spinoff (Below Zero), or whether it will be an entirely different endeavour. We do know that the title will not be coming to us anytime soon as the listing itself states that this is a chance to join Unknown Worlds in “early development”.

“Unknown Worlds is seeking a Senior Narrative Designer to join the team working on the next game in the Subnautica universe.  This person will collaborate closely with the team to tell compelling, dramatic stories in the context of the game experience, while also defining the history and lore of a new science fiction world and its alien inhabitants. This person has a unique opportunity to join the team early in development and help establish the narrative direction for a beloved franchise.”

In the description of the job listing, it states that the candidate will “tell compelling, dramatic stories in the context of the game experience, while also defining the history and lore of a new science fiction world and its alien inhabitants” which gives an idea that we can expect a more lore-dense title than Subnautica.

The initial title told its story of events through data logs that you collect throughout your time in the ocean world of Subnautica, which included alien technology, extinction, as well as the fate of fellow members of your odyssey.
