Battlefield 2042 Review - Shallow Warfare

Next Battlefield Could Have ‘Most Realistic Destruction Effects’ in Gaming

A new EA job listing suggests that the next Battlefield game currently in development at DICE could have the ‘most realistic destruction effects’ in gaming. The Battlefield series has always been known for its highly destructible environments, allowing players to topple entire buildings and turn maps into flat wastelands. DICE might be taking that level of destruction a step further for the next entry, which is still being kept tightly under wraps.

As spotted by Tech4Gamers, a new job listing opened up at EA seeking a VFX Director with the job description, “We are looking for a Senior 3D Artist like you to help us create the most realistic and exciting destruction effects in the industry.” Under the ‘Skills We Require’ section, it goes on to mention that the employee must be able to “create optimised and hyper realistic in-game VFX” for the next Battlefield title.

EA DICE’s last game, Battlefield 2042, failed to capture the same destructive energy as past games despite featuring tornadoes ripping through the maps. Whatever the next Battlefield game turns out to be, it seems like EA is trying to make amends for 2042‘s failure and bring the series back to its destructive roots and glory days again. Of course, this isn’t set in stone so we recommend taking it with a pinch of salt. Anything could change in development from now until the game’s release.

We do know some information about the next Battlefield thanks to previous rumours, statements and development shuffles. Some details apparently leaked online in February last year. EA stated that it sees the next game as a “reimagination as a truly connected ecosystem”, suggesting that it might encompass several releases under one banner. Need for Speed developer Criterion Games joined the development of Battlefield last year, though it’s unclear what that means for the next Need for Speed title.
