The next movie from Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan is apparently due in 2026 with actor Matt Damon set to star in the unnamed project. Details about this mystery movie are being kept tightly under wraps for now, though we know that Nolan will be reuniting with Universal Pictures for the movie – the same studio that helmed last year’s Academy Award winning hit, Oppenheimer.
As reported by Deadline, the next movie from Christopher Nolan, best known for directing The Dark Knight, Inception and Dunkirk, will release in 2026 – more specifically, 17 July 2026, sticking to his usual schedule of releasing his major movies between June and August. Deadline also reports that the script for the movie is already done and that it will star Matt Damon, who previously worked with Nolan on Interstellar and Oppenheimer.
Oppenheimer released last year, quickly becoming one of the biggest movies of the year both in critical acclaim and box office success. The R-rated biopic followed the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the nuclear physicist who aided in the Manhattan project during the height of World War II, leading to the creation of the world’s first nuclear bomb and its intense Trinity Test. Unlike Nolan’s previous works, Oppenheimer was heavy on political drama and light on action, though it still earned him Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture.
Nolan has an outstanding filmography dating back to the 90s and 2000s with thrillers like Memento, Insomnia and The Prestige. However, the director shot into mainstream popularity when he helmed a trilogy of Batman movies starring Christian Bale, consisting of 2005’s Batman Begins, 2008’s The Dark Knight and 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.
If you’re curious about diving into his filmography, we’ve ranked every Christopher Nolan movie from worst to best for you to check out. On the plus side, at least we know that his upcoming movie starring Matt Damon won’t be a superhero flick.
