The next trailer for Final Fantasy XVI, the upcoming anticipated JRPG from Square Enix, could arrive as soon as October. According to producer Naoki Yoshida, fans can expect a new trailer next month, though didn’t mention exactly when or where we’ll be able to see it. The game is scheduled to launch in summer 2023.
Final Fantasy XVI was first announced in a PlayStation showcase in 2020 and received a new trailer in a State of Play earlier this year. The new entry in the long-running series will be developed by Creative Business Unit III, the same team behind Final Fantasy XIV Online. We can expect some interesting changes, including an overhaul of the combat system as Devil May Cry 5‘s combat designer was hired to work on the game.

Speaking during Tokyo Game Show at the Japan Game Awards, Yoshida was asked about a new trailer, to which he responded:
“I haven’t gotten a chance to talk to the marketing or public relations teams at all, so I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to say… But I think we’ll probably be able to release the next trailer next month or so… And after that, I hope to be able to give a rough idea of when it will be released.”
It seems like Square Enix won’t reveal a release date for Final Fantasy XVI in this new trailer so we’ll have to be patient a little while longer. However, pinning the trailer in October is fitting timing as PlayStation’s next big gaming showcase – which didn’t happen this month, rather replaced with a State of Play – is rumoured to have shifted to October. This event might also give us brand new looks at upcoming PS5 games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 too.
Final Fantasy XVI launches in summer 2023 exclusively for PS5.
